As part of the Werkleitz Festival 2025 and the exhibition Planetary Peasants at the Kunstmuseum Moritzburg Halle (Saale), I was invited to create a work addressing the 500th anniversary of the Peasants’ War.
In my project "covered" I focused on everyday life on agricultural farms during the winter months. My project connects the conditions on these farms with the story of the “Abduction of Persephone” from Greek mythology. Persephone, the daughter of Demeter and Zeus, was robbed by Hades and taken to the underworld. Her mother forced an agreement that allowed Persephone to return cyclically to the surface of the earth; only for part of the year did she have to remain in the dark underworld. This myth was used to explain why there is a winter season.
Through fictional letters, I adress the mother-daughter relationship
. Would we live in an eternal paradise—without the abduction of Persephone?
